Vintage Buttons

I love getting fun mail, don't you?  On Friday, I checked the mail and had a box from my Stepmom which isn't unusual because the grandparents are always sending fun mail for Eli and our family.  The box was addressed to me, so I was immediately excited ;).  I opened the box to find tons and tons of vintage buttons so nicely color coordinated into various little baggies.  I've been searching Pinterest to get some inspiration on what to do with these little jems!

This is just a sampling!  There are even more!  Gonna have fun coming up with some fun and crafty ways to use these.  Maybe some cute decor for the kids room, or my sewing area - maybe some Christmas decorations, hair bows or accessories!

Hey Everyone!  Sorry I haven't posted since Monday, the week got away from me... but I've got something yummy to show you ;).  Ainsley's quilt is done!  So happy with how it turned out and glad to have completed my 7th quilt!

The stats:

My favorite star

Meandering machine quilting

My label.  My Pigma Micron pen bled slightly and faded a little, so I'll go over it again.  Any other ideas for labeling quilts?

So there it is!  What do you think?  Feels so good to be done with a quilt and to make something special for my little girl to grow up with and keep forever.  Maybe my granddaughter will have it one day!  Have a wonderful Friday!

Eli's Tower Quilt Planning

I have begun the plan for Eli's quilt.  I've been gathering fabric and organizing the plan in my mind and on graph paper.

I used a graph paper with a smaller square than what you might remember from Geometry class so that each square can equal 1 inch rather than 2.  The black part will be a medium grey and the color will be various scraps and little boy types of fabric.

I've got Ainsley's Star Quilt basted together and hoping to get it quilted and bound today and tomorrow to show you on Wednesday!

The stars are getting there ;)

Well, I didn't get quite as much sewing time this weekend as I had planned so I don't have a top yet, but I've got a block you haven't seen yet.  I think this might be my favorite.  I like the print in the star shape, I think it looks sweet.  Happy Monday!  Also, I'm linking the Window Jane Quilt to Sew Modern Monday and Made by you Monday on Skip to My Lou.  Check out these great sites!

Latest Ainsley Star Block

Now that I have finished the Window Jane quilt, I am working my way through Ainsley's star quilt and really excited to make something special for my little girl.  When it's complete I plan to make my special little boy's quilt.  Here are the blocks I did yesterday.

The blocks below are blocks that I have already done with 2 different prints in each star.  Now, I am making blocks with stars made out of 1 print.

Window Jane Quilt Complete!

Happy Monday everyone!  I'll get right to it, Window Jane is complete!

This quilt, which I decided to call Window Jane is for my Dad and Stepmom - it's their Christmas present.  I'm a little late!  These are Heather Bailey Nicey Jane fabrics framed in Kona Ash and the blue is Kona Lake.  I quilted it very simply with some straight line quilting in the blue sashing.  The binding is scrappy.  It measures 59 x 69.  What do you think?  I'm very happy with how it turned out.  I hope my Dad and Stepmom are too!

And stay tuned... I think a giveaway is in order soon ;).

Hostess Gift Idea - Dishtowel Apron!

Happy Monday Everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend.  Today I've got a quick, easy and super fun no sew apron for a classy hostess gift idea.  Well you will need to sew on a button, but just a needle and thread is needed, no need for a machine.  My Grandma Saundra thought I would like this idea and shared it with me.

First, start with a generous sized dishtowel.  Mine is a Crate & Barrel Sereno and measures 20 x 30.

Then attach 2 buttons, one in each top corner.  Make sure they have a shank.  If the buttons you choose do not have one, you can make one - here is a site that walk you through it.

Tie a ribbon around each button.  My ribbon measures around 50 inches each.  Use fraycheck on the ends of the ribbon.  Best to be able to remove the ribbons for washing.

Here it is!  It's a great size and the ribbon is nice and long to tie around the front and tie in a bow.
