Eli Tower Quilt finally complete!!!

Remember this quilt top from way back when?  Like, back to October?!  Well, I have finally finished my 3 year old little boy's quilt.  His sister got one before he did.  Here was the top from back in October.
AND... here is the completed quilt!  The Eli Tower Quilt.  I made this completely from my stash, designed it myself and used fabric he would recognize which he thinks is super fun.  This would look awesome with a designer jelly roll and some Kona Snow... ;)

The Specs
43x46
Kona Medium Grey
Bound in Kona... I think Royal.
Random fabrics from my stash, denim, sheets and flannel.
Straight line quilted with a walking foot on my Viking.
Batting is Warm and Natural.

Here is is pointing out his favorite part.

Here is the back.  This was a twin top sheet.

You can see there in the middle some of the imperfection in the straight line quilting until I came up with a better strategy.

 Another view.

Here was the original plan... How do you think my vision turned out?

Cal King Quilt Endeavor

Hello Blog Readers!  I just realized I haven't shared with you some of the process photos from the very ambitious bed quilt I have decided to do.  I have a Cal King size bed and I am doing a mini master bedroom makeover, so some new bedding is in order.  If you follow me on Instagram (melaniekham) or Twitter, you will have seen a lot of these pics already.

I am using Kona Snow and Annette Tatum's Boho line.  This blue is the Henna Sea from Fabric.com.

I am doing the Houndstooth pattern from this awesome book...

Cutting, Cutting, Cutting and I'm not even done cutting.  It's simple cutting, but Cal King is Large!

Here is a larger swatch of how it will come together, these are not sewn together.  I am however going to add some another fabric as pops of a darker blue for some of the dark houdstooth pieces.  Anyway, hoping I can get a few hours of sewing in during nap time!!  I cleaned and organized the laundry room this morning, so I don't feel bad ;).

I'll keep you updated!

Beach Day!

Hey Everyone!  The kids gave me their head cold, so this week has been pretty low key.  Daddy has been working a lot too, so I am just trying to keep everything maintained.  All the projects I had planned will have to wait!  So I'm on the mend, but thought I would post this little picture from our beach trip last Saturday.  No filter or anything, just my trusty iPhone camera!  Have a great Thursday!

P.S. In case you are wondering, the photo was taken on the Windward side of Oahu at Kailua Beach Park!  One of our favorite spots!

How to Hand Embroider a Monogram

I have a YouTube channel that has lots of tutorials.  I just posted one great for Mother's Day!  How to hand embroider a monogram!  You could add this to an apron (like the one below), tea towel, pillow case or anything else you can think of to make a beautiful, handmade and personalized Mother's Day present.  Check it out!

My DQS 12 mini

Earlier this week I recieved my DQS 12 mini quilt!  I love it!  I remember seeing it in the flickr group and thinking, oooo I like that one!  Yay, so glad its for me!  I have a special place in my heart for tea, tea cups and teapots (I have a collection of white teapots that I adore) so this is so perfect!  It even matches my cute little hutch.  Anyway, here it is ;).

My partner also included a charm pack and these little teeny packs too, I'm not sure if they have a name, but they are cute!  AND so generous of my partner!  Can't wait to use this fun little teapot scrap too!

Mommy OOTD

Here is a Mommy OOTD!  This what what I wore last Sunday.  This was before I found out all of the photos on my blog were gone.  Speaking of which, please bear with me as I slowly restore photos and build a new site.  If you click around, you may see a giant black box with an exclamation point, so just know that I am working on fixing it and using this as an opportunity to make a new site!  Anyway, here is my outfit!

A huge bummer

Hey Everyone!

So I inadvertently deleted almost all of my photos from this blog.  I had a random album on google + that had blog images and I didn't want it on there, so I deleted it, not knowing it deleted the photos from picasa and subsequently the blog.  So, please bear with me while I rebuild and re-upload the photos to this blog.  According to the forums, this is a fairly common problem and google has not fixed it or chosen not to or whatever.  I am also re-evaluating whether or not to do a total blog/website overhaul and maybe choose wordpress or another hosting company.  Thank you for your patience!

How to Crochet a Traditional Granny Square

Hey Everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend!  We had a nice family weekend, attended church on Good Friday and Sunday morning and had some friends over for a ham dinner last night.  It was very nice!  I just uploaded a video on my YouTube channel on how to crochet a traditional granny square.  It shows how to change out the colors, finish off your ends and attach 2 squares together.

This is the granny square you will learn to make.

Here are the 2 squares joined together.  I show you how to do this!!

Don't forget about Mother's Day coming up!  You have plenty of time to make Mom a blanket!!

March Blocks of the Month

This block is the broken spider web block using the foundation piecing technique.  I used scraps from many lines of fabric from Heather Bailey Nicey Jane, Modern Meadow by Michael Miller, Outfoxed by Lizzie House, Anthology, Strawberry fields, Tula Pink Prince Charming and more...

Here is a close-up of a broken spider web corner.

This next one is a string block using the same foundation piecing but a different method.  I used the same scraps for this block.

Another close-up including the center.

Here are all of the blocks from January, February and March together.  What do you think of how this is coming together?  Can you picture how 24 different blocks will looks with all these colors?  I think it's gonna be pretty great!!
